Biographical Description

Peter Clifton (d. c1786) was a resident of Bertie County who served as a justice for the Bertie County Court of Pleas & Quarter Sessions. He also represented Bertie County in the Provincial Congress in 1775. In 1777 his brother John Clifton came to him to confess his knowledge of the Gourd Patch Conspiracy and Peter urged him to come before the court to share what he knew.
