Thomas Edgar Blackstock was born in Buncombe County, North Carolina, on June 30, 1878. Blackstock was a proprietor of a wholesale lumber dealer in Asheville who served as chairman of a commission charged with the purchase and conservation of the Mount Mitchell property. He died in Asheville on May 27, 1939.
