Mary Blount Cowper (née Grimes) was born in Pitt County, North Carolina on September 5, 1832. She married Pulaski Cowper in Avon (Pitt County) on May 15, 1857. The couple resided in Raleigh for several decades. She died there on February 19, 1917.
