Biographical Description

Edward McSwain was a resident of Hyde County who served as the local county sheriff and as a justice of the peace. In 1756 he presided over the local freeholders' court which heard a case involving Daniel, an enslaved man accused of killing McSwain's sister Elizabeth Eborne. Eborne died in Hyde County in about September 1772.
