Biographical Description

Godfrey Hunt was a resident of Nansemond County, Virginia. Sometime between March 1733 and July 1737 Hunt married Anne Coleman Reynolds. With his marriage, he became the executor of Anne's brother Robert's will and was entitled to receive 500 pounds of tobacco from each of Robert Coleman's formerly enslaved people each year in exchange for their continued liberty. In July 1737 Hunt took William Derry, one of the people Coleman had formerly enslaved, and sold him to William Taylor of Chowan County, North Carolina. Godfrey Hunt died in Isle of Wight County, Virginia by November 1742.
