David Hines was born in Surry County, Virginia in about 1721. In about 1769 Hines moved to Edgecombe County, North Carolina, where he resided until about 1778. In 1778 he moved to Pitt County, where he, along with his two sons, became near neighbors of Jehu Tison. He died sometime after 1784.
