Biographical Description

Thomas Motley was a resident of Halifax County, North Carolina by 1764. Motley owned many enslaved people including a man named Gust, who testified that an enslaved woman named Rose had planned to burn down building when she tried to escape from slavery. He died in Halifax in about 1776.
