Ann Owen was born in Norfolk, Virginia on February 16, 1693. In 1722 she married Joseph Small in Nansemond, Virginia. Following her husband's death in about 1755, Ann Small may have moved to Chowan County, North Carolina to be closer to her son Josiah. In 1782 she appeared on a list of witnesses in a trial involving Sal, an African American man enslaved by Josiah that had been taken by Elizabeth and Thomas Jones. Any further information about Ann Small has not been located.
