Biographical Description

Anthony Ward was a merchant in Wilmington, North Carolina. An owner of enslaved people, Ward served on the jury for several cases before the freeholders court, which heard legal issues involving enslaved individuals. Ward was also an officer in the New Hanover Regiment of the North Carolina Militia, eventually attaining the rank of colonel in 1777. He died in about October 1779.
