Walter Carruth was born in Ireland in about 1703. Carruth likely immigrated to Pennsylvania in 1729 before settling in North Carolina. Initially a justice of the peace in Anson County, North Carolina, Carruth became a justice of the peace in Rowan upon that county's formation in 1753. Carruth died in Rowan on February 19, 1769.
