Robert Brevard was born in Cecil County, Maryland in 1718 and immigrated to North Carolina by 1745. Originally a resident of Anson County, North Carolina, Brevard settled on lands near the Rocky River in what later became Rowan County in 1753. An owner of enslaved people, he served on the local freeholders court, which heard cases involving enslaved people. Brevard died in Iredell County, North Carolina on October 20, 1800.
