Biographical Description

Jesse Benton was a resident of New Hanover County, North Carolina. In 1769 he served as the clerk of the local freeholders court in Wilmington when that body heard the case of Toney, an enslaved man charged with robbery. Benton may have later become a resident of Surry County, North Carolina.
