Biographical Description

Will, an African American man residing in Bladen County, North Carolina, was enslaved by George Kornegay. When Will was found guilty of robbery by the local freeholders court in 1748, the court ordered his execution. Following Will's execution, the court gave compensation to Kornegay for the loss of Will's labor. However, the compensation amount was only about half of what was usually allowed, which was typically an indicator that the enslaved individual was old or infirm in some way. Any further information regarding this individual has not been located.
