Inquisition Indened, taken at Christ Church Parish in Craven County North Carolina, the 22nd Day of August in the Year of Our Lord One Thousand Seven hundred & fifty four before me Solomon Rew his Majestys Coroner for the County of Craven upon View of he Body of Liddy Bembridge Late of the Parish, County, and Province, aforsaid; Then and there lying Dead, and upon the Oath of Francis Fountin, Charles Evitt, John Barnecastle, Richard Hall, William Arthur, John Fountin, Joseph Martain, Richard Davis, James Barnicastle, Robert Dunlap, James Purdue Kitnell Mundine, Thomas Moariss Edwd. Herbert, James Falconer John Stevenson, Stephen Merriman, and John Mead Good and Lawfull Men of the Parish of Christ Church in Craven County and Province afsd. who being Charged and Sworn to Enquire how and in what manner the said Liddey Bembridge by her Death Came, Upon their Oaths do Say that a Negroe Fellow Belonging to Newman Dunn of the County Parish and Province afsd. named ^Jack^ by force and Arms ^Did Assault the said Liddy Bembridge^ and with a Certain Narrow Ax, Felloniously, & of his Malice forethought Did give the said Liddy Bembridge one Mortal Wound in her Head of which Wound the afsd Liddy Instantly Dyed and so the afsd: Negroe Named Jack, her the said Liddy Bembrdige, Then and there felloniously Killed and Willfully murthered Contrary to the Peace of Our Sovereign Lord the King, his Crown and Dignity. In Testimoney whereof aswell I the said Coroner as the Jurors afsd: to this Inquisition have severally put Our hands and Seals this Day Year and Place first above Written—
