Your having control of the state and its interest I thought I would drop you a line as I am one of the small office holders &ca. Well I have been here in charge of the quarters for 3½ month doing doing the best I could for the interest of all concerned I have on an average 140 Prisoners health good and we are doing very good work here when I came here things was out of Joint a good deal but I have evey thing under good controll it realy keeps me buisey.

Governor it is worth at least $175.00 a month to do the duties required at a stockade and realy I am loosing at the pay I get neglecting my business & Family &ca but my financial affairs were so bad I thought it best to accept for a while aney way hoping something might turn up that would pay me better and if any thing comes up I hope you will remember me and I assure you as ever heretofore you'll find me a true friend I get a long here very well I believe I have the good will and perfect controll of all Guards Prisoners &ca with me on the other side I will give you a statement of what it has cost to runn Round Knob quarters from 1st of November the time I tooke charge this includes Board & hier of Guard and Board of Convicts includes tobacco and evey thing ecept wearing aparell (to wit)

The hier of Guard for the three month total added to the Board of Guard & Convicts makes a cost of 18 cts a day for each Convict at the quarters. This does not include wearing aparell but all other cost this is a correct statement from my Books.

There has been in the three month 12467 days of convicts and Guard 2145 days & overseer 92 days.

We have great excitement in this section about mad doggs now there seemes to be a great many running mad her litter stock & some persons people are doing a good thing killing up all the dogs I wish there was none of them and more sheep I will stop my scribling
