To Charles Wilkins Constable—

April the 18th 1720.

Pursuant to the within Warrant I have Executed the same on the body of Cush a negro man belonging to Paul Palmer.

Aprll: the 23d 1720. Executed on Paul Palmer this day being the third time I have been at the sd: Paul Palmer's House to Execute the within Precept but could never get hold of him before, & this morning I see the said Negro Sambo near the House of the sd: Paul Palmer going hither with some things he had in his hands & took him into Custody but sufferd him to go into the sd: Palmer's house & up Stairs, soon after which I heard a whispering & a little after that heard a Noise withoutside the House. I then went out & see the sd: Negro Sambo come from out of a Window at the End of the house & run into a verry Miery & thick Swamp by which means he made his Escape, & upon my returne presently after I had persued the sd: Negro in the Swamp, did see Mrs: Palmer (wife of the sd: P. Palmer) come down Stairs & out of the same room into which the sd. Sambo went. I told her she did not do well to Detain the sd: Negro that was another mans, she say'd it was her own Negro & that Mr: Richardson could shew Law for her keeping of him.
