L. W. Young,
The Adjutant General,
Raleigh, N.C.,

Dear Sir:

Your letter received with papers concerning Ross L. White. The Board looked in the matter thoroughly before passing upon his case, which was his mother depending on his labor for support. We found that Mrs. White owns several acres of marsh property for which she refused $30,000.00. She also owns a farm near Shawboro, forty head of cows besides hogs, sheep and ponies. Mrs. White admitted this before the Board.

Mrs. White has two grown daughters with her, one sixteen year old boy and some smaller children. She also has four married daughters. Out of this bunch she ought to have some help. My letter to Gov. Bickett dated Oct. 4, explains the whole situation. We found no grounds for her depending upon her son’s labor for support. Ross L. White is now at Camp Jackson in Military Service. We see no reason for reopening the case to gratify a few politicians who are trying to get him discharged from Military Service. They seem to be determined in getting him discharged. They have gone from Local Board to District Board, from the Governor to the Adjutant General and now they are back to the Local Board again. You can readily see it is not Ross L. White but it is just to accomplish their political points to show to the Local Board and a few other people what they can do. If we have got to listen to what such politicians dictate to us, there will be no end to our troubles with others wanting to be released from Military Service.

If in your opinion you think best to discharge him, after knowing the facts I have stated in this letter, it is entirely up to you and we will cerfully turn all other such cases over to you. If White is discharged from Military Service, no doubt we will have other similar cases.

Kindly confer with Gov. Bickett before taking any action in this case.

Yours respectfully,

[D. W. Woodhouse]
Chairman of Local Board for Currituck Co.
