STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
GOVERNOR'S OFFICE
RALEIGH

<Hq. 81st Div., - 201-Jones, Jonathan Wood
Nov. 29, 1917.>

November 22nd, 1917.

Gen. Chas. Bailey,
Commanding Officer Camp Jackson,
Columbia, S.C.

My dear General Bailey:-

My attention has been called to the case of Jonathan Wood Jones, Serial No. 739, who has just been sent to Camp Jackson. This young man is from Greene County, N.C., the son of a widowed mother and is the only white man on a large plantation, and is in the very midst of a bountiful harvest. About one half of his crop will not be harvested if he is not permitted to be on the place. If not inconsistent with the rules and regulations I would be glad for you to grant this young man a furlough until Jan. 1st to harvest his crop. I am not asking for his exemption but only for a furlough.

With kind regards, I am,
Very truly yours,

T. W. Bickett
