My dear Sir:-

Mr. Phil M. Utley, serial No. 532, order No. 1690, was married on the 26th day of November, 1917, to Miss Ada Lee Timberlake of Wake Forest, N.C. These young people have been engaged for about five years, and were simply waiting for Mr. Utley to reach such a position that would enable him to take care of his wife. I know both of these people well and I know that their marriage was celebrated in the utmost good faith, and with no thought of thereby avoiding liability for military service. I know all about their people and their circumstances, and do not hesitate to certify to you that Mr. Utley’s wife is wholly dependent upon him for support, and he is entitled to be classified accordingly.
