U. S. NAVAL AIR STATION
Morehead City, N.C.

18 September 1918.

Secretary to the GovernorState of North Carolina.
Raleigh, N.C.

Dear Sir:

I have been ordered by the Commanding Officer, Naval Air Station, Hampton Roads, Va., in accordance with orders from the Chief of Naval Operations, to establish a seaplane station on the site of Camp Glenn.

I have a copy of the letter written by the Secretary of the Navy to the Governor, requesting that he forward in writing for the purpose of record, his generous officer of Camp Glenn to the Navy, but I have no copy of the Governor’s answer. If you could send me such a copy, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, I would appreciate if you would inform me of the exact status of the keeper, Mr. Young; whether he is to be retained by the State to look out for it’s interests on this place, and if so, whether his services will be at my disposal, i. e., whether his position is that of an onlooker or of an employee whom I can request to work with my men on such work as may be found necessary to do.

Trusting that you will be able to give this information, as it will be of great use to me here, I am,

Yours truly,

R. L. Ireland, Jr.
