Joshua Davis was born in Perquimans Precinct, North Carolina on December 14, 1724. A Quaker, he moved to the vicinity of Wayne County, North Carolina in 1772. A prominent farmer and mill owner, he is mentioned in a 1780 petition from the Wayne County Quakers to the North Carolina General Assembly, asking the assembly to reconsider the taxes levied on Quakers. He died in Wayne or Orange County, North Carolina, in about 1788.
