John Davis was born in Perquimans County, North Carolina, in about 1756. He moved to Wayne County, North Carolina, where, as a Quaker, he signed a 1780 petition from the Wayne County Quakers to the North Carolina General Assembly, requesting a reconsideration of the tax amounts levied on Quakers. He died in Wayne in about 1831.
