Jesse Geane was born in either Brunswick, Virginia or Chatham County, North Carolina in about 1750. He was the brother of Philip Geane, and he traveled with Mourning, Philip's widow, to retrieve Philip's body from the battleground of Lindley's Mill in September 1781. Genealogical records suggest Jesse Geane died in Chatham County in about 1791.
