Thomas Jones was born in Chowan County, North Carolina on January 13, 1737. A yeoman farmer, in 1782 he and his mother stole Sal, an enslaved man, from Thomas Jones' brother-in-law Josiah Small. Jones later died in Chowan in about 1810.
