<File under Adjutant General>

STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA
THE ADJUTANT GENERAL'S DEPARTMENT
RALEIGH

January 1, 1919.

Hon. T. W. Bickett, Governor,
Raleigh, N.C.

My dear Governor:-

Complying with your request, I am enclosing herewith a statement showing the total number of men from North Carolina who served in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Officers Training Camps and Students Army Training Corps from April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918.

The Secretary of the Navy advises me that “in view of the fact that prior to the War, no record was kept of enlistments from the different States, the number of officers and enlisted men in the Marine Corps on April 6, 1917, from North Carolina, cannot be given”, so that the total of officers and enlisted men from North Carolina, appearing on the enclosed statement, does not include those officers and enlisted men who were from this State, and who were in the Marine Corps prior to April 6, 1917.

The totals given on the statement are correct, except as to the Marine Corps as above mentioned.

Sincerely yours,

B. S. Royster,
The Adjutant General.
