The Examination of John Tate, Labourer, brought before Christor: Gale Esqr. Chief Justice of North Carolina—for Felony and Burglary—

Saith, That about Eight weeks agoue he, confederateing with John Fenix calling himself a free Negro, and young Tony & Moses Slaves of Mr: Tookes, went away from Mr. Tookes plantation, in a Cannoe of the said Tookes, that as they went they put ashoar at Majr. That ^about abt. an hour before their Departure^ the said Tony ^Moses^ went in at the window of Mr Tookes Store house, & open'g the Spring lock—that he comeing that way with the abovenamed John Fenix, they both entered, That John Fenix pulling up at the lid of the Chest opened the same, which he judged was locked, that he & John Fenix & Moses brought out of the said ^chest in the^ Store house sundry goods which are now produced—Vizt—
