Biographical Description

Moses, an African American man residing in Pasquotank County, North Carolina, was enslaved by James Tookes. In 1715 Moses helped John Fenix, John Tate, and an assortment of other individuals take a chest from Tookes' storehouse. While Tate, Fenix, and several others then went on the run, court records do not indicate whether Moses went with them, or if he was ever punished for assisting with the theft. Any further records regarding this individual have not been located.
