To: Hon. Thos. W. Bickett, Governor of North Carolina, Raleigh, N.C.

Subject: Resignation as Medical Aide to Governor.

1. You will see by the enclosed copy of letter that I have been instructed by the Surgeon General to tender my resignation as your Medical Aide in order that I may be available for assignment for overseas service with Base Hospital #65. This Hospital, as you perhaps recall, is the one which I organized and is now in Camp at Ft. McPherson almost ready for embarkation.

2. Allow me to say that my relations to you as Medical Aide have been exceedingly pleasant. I have been much interested in the work. I also realize that I have not nearly finished the task set before me and regret that it is necessary for me to resign before it is thoroughly completed.

3. The consideration which I have received not only from yourself but from Major John D. Langston and Adjutant General Young is deeply appreciated.

4. Since it will take several days to complete my report relative to the Local Exemption and Medical Advisory Boards to be made to the Provost Marshal General through your office, I beg the liberty of suggesting that in accepting my resignation you say that it is effective whenever the Surgeon General orders me to other duties.
